Latest Technology Used in Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry makes us look and feel good, and makes us more confident in ourselves and how we present to others. From professional teeth whitening to dental veneers, Cosmetics is one of the most cutting-edge fields of dentistry. Driven forward by new technological advancements, cosmetic dentistry is always becoming less invasive and more effective, to preserve the underlying teeth while creating a perfect smile.
Computer-Aided Design
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is impacting every aspect of manufacturing, and cosmetic dentistry is no exception.
CAD for Accuracy
With CAD, dentists can create well-fitting dental fittings, such as veneers, crowns, and bridges, for the most accurate dental restorations. The success of these fittings and how long they can last depends on how accurately they were made in the first place. With CAD technology, fitting can be made to mould the soft gum tissues of your mouth (give you an even bite), and mould onto the underlying teeth structures, all while delivering great aesthetics for a perfect smile.
This type of work used to be outsourced to other dental labs, but now that CAD technology is being implemented in the dental clinic itself.
CAD for Faster Treatments
CAD compresses the length of time needed for full teeth restoration, so that you no longer need multiple visits to the dental clinic. Previously, patients needed at least two visits, over two different days, to the dentist; the first to mould the shape and contours of their teeth, and the second to have the dental fittings secured in place. The time between the two visits could stretch into the weeks, as time was needed to accurately create the fittings in the right shape.
Now, as CAD becomes more and more common in the most forward-thinking of private dental clinics, you only have to come for two visits, both on the same day, as the fittings can be made immediately after the mould has been created.
Composite Bonding
The future of dental veneers lies in something like composite bonding. In this new technique, a material is applied to the tooth for sculpting into the correct shape. A high-intensity light beam is used to harden the material so that it stays fixed on the tooth. Like veneers, composite bonding can fix cosmetic dentistry issues such as chipped, cracked or stained teeth. However, it has the benefit of being able to be set immediately, in a single visit to the private dental clinic.
